One day before the year 2019 ends… I take the time to reflect on the growth of our foster child Anisha’s portfolio. Since the start of 2015, we have been disciplined growing money in a fund plan of Keytrade bank. At the end of 2014, I decided to become a godparent of a Cunina child and help the child to have a better education in life.

The Vision & Mission of Cunina

Cunina strongly believes that education is the key to a better future. Anyone who has access to education, can learn a profession. I am also a strong believer of this principle. This means just as much as escaping the vicious circle of poverty. Cunina values access to and the quality of education. Education is necessary for individual and social development and leads to sustainable development.

Cunina is a Belgian, international non-governmental development organization. Their mission is to improve access to and the quality of primary and secondary education in six partner countries (Brazilthe PhilippinesHaitiNepalUganda and South Africa), irrespective of political, religious and social beliefs.

A Foster Child Portfolio – Why investing money for a foster child ?

As outlined in our Portfolio of our foster child, during the past twenty years I have traveled the world and seen more than 20 countries. One key insight that did touch my heart, was the poverty of kids in certain countries. In order to have a better life, it is SO important to have the right education to achieve a better lifestyle. I have seen kids living on the streets, kids who had been burnt in their faces to continue their lives as beggars, kids who were starving, etc…I have seen kids in life conditions that I will never forget in my life.

For that reason I have decided to support a child within Nepal through the organisation Cunina. Cunina shares the same dream as I do have. They believe that every child is unique, is talented and deserves a chance to develop these talents. I had the pleasure to meet Sophie Van Geel in July 2019 and the stories are incredible.  If you want to learn more about Cunina’s fantastic work, go to their website www.cunina.org or download the English brochure of Cunina.

My commitment to Anisha is to pay her education (30 Euro per month) until she graduates from university. In addition to the monthly payment for her education, I have started to invest in a fund plan. It can be the start of Anisha’s emergency fund, an airplane ticket to Belgium, …who knows. An emergency fund is critical to start a good life. It gives peace of mind, money to invest in additional education, a buffer to rely on in bad times. Read one of our latest blog post How to correctly size your emergency fund ? if you don’t know how to start with the foundation of every Financial strategy.

Our dream is to visit Nepal with the family and visit Anisha one day after she graduates. My personal dream would be to be present at her graduation but I realize that may be difficult. As our relationship grows through letters and sharing family moments, nothing stops us for building out our relationship over time. Our objective for my foster child portfolio is to reach 5.000 Euro in the coming years. That is our first milestone we are aiming for.

5 Year Portfolio Update

Today I put monthly 25 EURO in a KEYPLAN and you can read below what has been the return so far. KEYPLAN is our FIRST conservative investment strategy in our Portfolio Investment strategy.

Last year in 2018, the money we invested was 1225 Euro and it had generated 11,14 Euro extra money. The diversification of the money is spread amongst 11 different funds. in April 2019 we had 1525 Euro invested and we have 33 Euro profit.

Please be aware that this strategy aims two factors: TIME and BUY ON FIXED TIMES. The funds do not generate any dividend income and the strategy of compounded interest does not apply here. The only extra income is my monthly 25 euro each month that purchases new participations in the funds. It is important to remain invested for at least 5 years, otherwise this strategy cannot be successful.

Below you can find the performance chart.

The past years our performance of this fund has been lagging. The past months we have seen a small boost and we now have 11,34% profit (a little 101 Euro).

Final Note

From 2015 until end of 2019 we have been growing this portfolio. We have now 36% of our 5.000 Euro achieved after 5 years. From 1st of 2020 we will start to apply a NEW STRATEGY for our foster child portfolio. I hereby wish you all a great 2020 and please change somebody’s future if you are financially capable of doing this. Teach someone how to fish.

I have a strong belief that EACH ONE OF YOU can change one other person’s life in the world. I see many people spending money on materialistic things …but does that make them any happier? Each person decides for himself their purpose in life and their objectives. One of my perspectives is that if you can change someone’s life towards a better life, this world would definitely be a better place.

That purpose in life means YOUR LIFE DID HAVE A SOCIAL IMPACT.
