Several months ago I purchased the book “Beleggen voor (je) kinderen. The author is Wilfriend Voorspoels, who has more than 30 years of experience as an investor. We purchased the book to learn about specific insights that we could apply in our investing strategy for our kids.
Book Review with Personal remarks
A savings account doesn’t generate any return. I hear it all the time….recently we had dinner with friends and my friend’s wife asked how to 
generate any return on the savings money of her daughter. Her daughter was disappointed about the yearly return of her money on the bank. Can you blame her?
What are the alternatives? Wilfried Voorspoels explains in his book in very simple terms 15 different ways of investing.
The first chapters focus on the basic concepts that you need to learn as an investor. Compound interest (as explained on our blog), risk management, portfolio composition and portfolio management are all topics that the author explains in simple terms.
Chapter 8 was my favorite one as this chapter focuses on Dividend growth investing. We apply a variant of this strategy for our Kid’s portfolio and my Mom’s portfolio.
From Chapter 10 onwards you can learn about funds, ETF’s and other ways of investing. The strategies described there are clearly for the more ADVANCED investor as I can’t believe that an investor with little financial literacy will understand some technical explanations.
In Chapter 18 the author explains why YOU MUST MAKE YOUR INVESTMENTS YOURSELF ! BECOME A DIY (do it yourself) INVESTOR ! This is all about cost avoidance and wasting money to the banks or investment managers.
The author ends in Chapter 20 with a summary of each described investing strategy and the risk level for each strategy. The dividend investing strategy that we apply, has a risk level 3. (1 – defensive ; 5 dynamic and higher risk)
Conclusion :
This “little” book (186 pages with hard cover) is a MUST for each family that would like to make their money grow. Whether it is for your kids or your own portfolio.
We see two important reasons why EVERY investor should purchase this book.
The (starting) BASIC investor can learn the basics of investing and learn about the different investing strategies. He can select the appropriate strategy and apply this going forward.
The ADVANCED investor can learn more dynamic ways of investing and new ways of investing based on his own risk level.
The author has clearly collected all his 30 years of investing experience in this book. We can only conclude that EVERYONE CAN LEARN from Wilfriend’s knowledge and experience. Select what works for you and your risk level and invest in your own FINANCIAL EDUCATION.
